Each year, the university publicizes its top doctoral programs, programs in the 50th percentile or above in national standings. The university began with four programs in the 50th percentile or above. Lending some truth to the adage “You become what you measure,” there are currently fourteen programs that are being showcased.
Working to achieve Carnegie R1 research status, the university uses Academic Analytics data to spread the focus of their efforts beyond dollars and degrees. They also emphasize other metrics such as book and journal publications, citations, and awards so that tail does not wag the dog.
The university is piloting external assessment of Ph.D. programs. They are inviting external reviewers from like departments to assess department strengths and weaknesses and are providing Academic Analytics department level data to those reviewers.
